Swan Valley Wineries and Vineyards

The Swan District wine region is a large area north of Perth. The flat plains of the region produce fine wines including Chenin Blanc and Verdelho. The Rose of the region is a perfect accompaniment to a summer's day.

The district extends along the coast just south of Guilderton and North West to Wannamal. Most wineries are found around the townships of Gingin and Yanchep. There is also a large scattering of wineries and vineyards along the Avon River which is now called the Swan Valley sub-region.

Swan Valley Sub-Region

The Swan Valley is the oldest wine region in Western Australia. Vines were planted in the 1800s with production steadily growing until the 1970s when table wine popularity shot through the roof. It is home to Houghtons Winery where famous winemaker Jack Mann produced fifty vintages. Mann pioneered white table wines, his most famous being Houghton's White Burgundy. He influenced generations of winemakers which is seen in modern winemaking practices today.

The Swan Valley is 20 minutes from Perth and is a perfect place for day trippers. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful wineries dotted beside the meandering Swan River. Book your Swan Valley winery accommodation here. The Valley has beautiful settings for their beautiful wines. These wines include Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Merlot, Semillon, Shiraz with a fine superiority seen in their fortifieds Muscat Gordo Blanco and Muscadelle.
