Swan Hill Wineries and Vineyards

The Swan Hill region reaches from Victoria's Haysdale in the north, touches east to Kyalite in NSW and then back to Swan Hill. The main vineyards and wineries of the region follow the Murray Valley Highway. The area has little rainfall and is hot and dry and so most wineries depend on the Murray River for irrigation water. This Mediterranean climate makes it ideal for the production of mass market grapes, especially Chardonnay.

The region boasts some of the largest and most important wine companies in Australia which per annum can crush over 23 000 tonnes of grapes. Boutique wineries also abound in this region producing many premium wines of different varieties. You can see harvesting of these grapes between mid February and April.

The Golden Mile Wine Trail runs along the banks of the Murray River between Goodnight and Beverford. Here you can feast upon the sumptuous local produce and watch Murray life float by.
