Riverland Wineries and Vineyards

The Riverland wine region is located in the central east of South Australia. The Murray River is the lifeline of this region feeding the grapes, citrus and stone fruits, vegetables, nuts and field crops. The region is Australia's largest wine region accounting for a quarter of the country's wine production. Most of this wine is used in export. For these reasons it is important to Australia that the Murray remains healthy and that is why the region remains innovative for long term agriculture and viticulture.

The region is also seeing the emergence of boutique wineries. The fruit here is very good and with careful hands these wineries are creating fine and delicate wines. The quality winemaker crafts these wines by removing half the fruit from the vine at budburst. This reduces the stress on the vine and the water intake which results in a wine with intense flavours, body and aromas.

The Riverland produces a variety of wines with a large amount of Chardonnay coming out of the region. The region also produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Shiraz and Viognier.
