Coonawarra Wine Region

The Coonawarra wine region is located in South Australia's Limestone Coast Zone and sits on the Victorian border almost 4 hours drive south east of Adelaide. The wine region sits on a ridge 59 metres above sea level and enjoys a mediterranean climate. Coonawarra is world famous for its Terra Rossa, a red-brown topsoil laid over a thin layer of calcrete. It is no wonder that this soil combined with numerous dedicated winemakers have helped make Coonawarra region one of Australia's finest. Mount Benson Wine Region

The Mount Benson wine region is a promising and rapidly growing region located on the western edge of the Limestone Coast. Millions of years ago the Limestone Coast was covered in water, with the expansion of the polar icecaps the seas retreated to leave a layer of soft limestone. This soil is ideal for viticulture as it retains water under the rich topsoils. The cool maritime climate also helps. The area is truly beautiful with several vineyards sitting on the coast. This close proximity to the ocean often gives a soft aroma of sea air to the bouquet of the wines. There are several cellar doors in the region which promote its citrus infused whites and full fragrant and highly coloured reds. Padthaway Wine Region

Padthaway is an isolated region located on the Limestone Coast. Like its neighbouring region Coonawarra, it has rich terra rossa and perfect Mediterranean climate conditions for viticulture. The plains of Padthaway are also known as Chardonnay Country, however the region also produces excellent instances of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. The vineyards here produce white and red table wine and sparkling wine for both premium labels and cask. Penola Wine Region

The Penola region is home to pockets of terra rossa soil located on a series of elevated island outcrops. This is where the vineyards are planted so they can enjoy the rich topsoil and limestone base. It is a cool climate region responsible for producing fine Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz wines. Robe Wine Region

The region is Australia's newest and definitely one to watch as it continues to develop premium grapes and to create superb wines. The Robe wine region reaches east along the Limestone Coast from Robe to Beachport. Situated on the coast the region experiences a maritime climate with cooling breezes from the ocean. The Woakwine Range shields the region from harsh southerly winds. Wrattonbully Wine Region

Wrattonbully is located on the Limestone Coast with Coonawarra to the south and Padthaway to the north east. The area helps support the Australian wine industry supplying bulk quantities of grapes to wineries outside the region. The winemakers in the region have begun to establish their own labels producing boutique wines and creating new cellar doors. The grapes showing the must success within the region are the Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. Other wines grown in the region are the Chardonnay and Merlot.
