Cowra Wine Region

The Cowra Wine Region is affectionately known as Chardonnay country. Although the Cowra Region has a long winemaking history it wasn't until the 70's until serious wine growing took place. After the first vineyard was created in 1973 the area quickly became recognised for its exceptional Chardonnay's. The 90's saw the emergence of the red grape in the area and now Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz are of equal importance.

The Cowra Wine region is located 320km West of Sydney in the Central Ranges zone of New South Wales. Harvest time begins in early March and continues to early April, this harvesting produces 10 million bottles of wine each year. Cowra Wineries & Vineyards and New South Wales Accommodation.

Orange Wine Region

Orange emerged as a wine growing region in the 80's which makes it a relative new comer to the Australian wine industry. It is situated on the slopes of Mount Canobolas with vines growing up to 1100 metres above sea level. We can thank the extinct volcano on which this region lies for its basalt based and rich soil. In combination with hearty rainfall in the growing season and bright sun in summer it is no wonder premium wines are coming out of Orange.

You will find Orange wines to be elegant and aromatic with intense fruit characters. The quality of Orange's Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blancs are exceptional. The region is also showing great interest in growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz with the Pinot Noir doing very well on these high slopes. Other wines you will find in the region are: Barbera, Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Sangiovese, Viognier and Zinfandel. The production of sparkling wines has also begun. Due to the climate harvesting is later in the year, beginning in late March and running through to early May. Orange Wineries & Vineyards and Orange Accommodation.
