Bendigo Wineries and Vineyards

Bendigo is a name synonymous with gold. The vineyards of this region were established to nourish the gold diggers of the 1850s and 60s, however, by the 1890s due to a plague of phylloxera wine in this area was short lived. It was not until the 1960s did Bendigo see the emergence of the modern wine industry. Since then the region has grown steadily and has become a prominent but small boutique wine region.

The region produces distinct red wines, favouring the Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. White varietals are also grown here and include Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier.

The Bendigo wine region is situated in attractive bush and has a number of rivers and creeks dissecting it. The beauty combined with excellent promise of wine, food and range of accommodation make it perfect for any visitor. The region has two premier events: The Bendigo Winemaker's Festival begins at harvest end in late March and the Bendigo Heritage Uncorked in October which celebrates the region's fine wine, food and heritage.
